Community Council 1-21-2015
Attendance: Principal Fowles
President Smith welcomed everyone to community council and asked for approval of minutes. Matt Bassett made the motion to approve and a second motion was made by Jimie Baker and minuted were approved.
President Smith discussed the the Trust Land Proposals. Items being discussed were:
Teacher Collaboration-----$15,000 Motion was made by Connie Johnson to approve teacher collaboration and 2nd by Matt Bassett and unanimous by the council.
Chrome Books-----$ 30,000 Motion was made by Matt Bassett and 2nd was made by Brett Draper and unanimous decision by the council.
Accelerated Reader---$3,000 Motion was made by Matt Bassett and 2nd by Brett Draper and unanimous decision was made by the board.
IXL Math and English licenses---$4,500 Motion was made by Connie Johnson and 2nd by Jimie Baker and unanimous decision was made by the board.
Materials for Chemistry and Physics was discussed to fund the science materials of $2500. Motion was made by Connie Johnson and 2nd was made by Kris Albrecht and unanimous decision by the council.
Teacher collaboration will be considered under our school goals. Chrome books and accelerated reader program will be placed under language arts. IXL program will be under the math criteria and the Physics and Chemistry monies will be placed under the science area.
Discussion was made about having other classes offered during the school day by teachers. Mrs Visser discussed some classes that could be offered. Some history classes could be taught for students to be eligible for a Regents Scholarship but our school lacks one class. Discussion was made on honors vs non-honors classes as well as combining 1050 and 1060 semester math class. Questions were asked about why the auto tech class was eliminated and the reasons for it. Principal Fowles discussed all issues and why and how we build a schedule and what classes are offered by the needs of our unique studentbody. Valyn Stephenson offered the suggestion of having a ACT Prep class.
Debbie Visser made the comment to the school that the math scores are going up by 100 points in a lot of students and many students and parents are very pleased with the teaching at Delta High School.
Meeting was adjourned and next meeting was scheduled for February 25 @ 2:45 p.m.
