Mrs. Vickie Carling is retiring from FMS this year. She started her adventure here in 1980. She was still Miss Brown when she was offered a position in Fillmore to complete her student teaching. During this time, she was finishing her schooling, engaged, and planning her wedding to Chris, whom she had met three years earlier on a blind date. They had gone fishing, and we would say he made quite a catch! Soon after completing her student teaching, she became Mrs. Carling. They have raised two remarkable children together – Cole and Crystal. She has a spunky attitude, and she tends to gravitate towards students who share her spirit. She has the ability to make real connections with students whom others may have discounted or written off as unreachable or difficult. Vickie has impacted more lives than even she realizes. She has a heart of gold – we have seen her generosity to help students in need not only physically, but emotionally and academically. We can all agree there will be a huge hole in our school with her absence. We feel privileged to have gotten to know her better throughout the years and feel blessed to have been able to work with her and witness her love for her students. After retirement, she plans to spend time with her three granddaughters, ice fishing, and winning the lottery!
