What is Concurrent Enrollment?

Concurrent enrollment (CE) provides an opportunity for Utah high school students to explore college classes and earn college credit through Snow College. Snow College credits are very transferrable to all the state colleges and universities in the Utah System of Higher Education.

Think of Concurrent Enrollment (CE) as an opportunity to explore what it is like to be a college student:

  1. CE classes are college classes. Some college classes are taught here at the high school by our high school teachers. Others are taught over IVC (Interactive Video Conferencing) where students are able to participate in college classes going on at the Snow college campus virtually. This allows you to experience college academics first-hand: read a college textbook, take college exams, write college papers, and learn how much studying is needed to pass a college class.
  2. You gain “college knowledge.” To take a CE class, you must apply for admission to a college, pay an application fee, meet college deadlines, and use the campus online registration system to enroll. This experience helps students transition to post high school education more easily. Talk to our college CE advisor (Janell Stephenson) about choosing classes.
  3. You save money. Through the CE program, you can take college classes at a deeply discounted cost. Currently, tuition for CE classes is $5 per credit, $15 per three credit class.  The initial registration fee is $30. On college campuses, tuition and fees for a three credit class costs between $450 and $1,600 depending on the college a student chooses to attend.
  4. You earn both college AND high school credit with each class. Some college classes fulfill high school requirements and some fulfill high school electives. Some college classes will fulfill high school and college REQUIRED classes, such as English 1010 (fulfills Senior English in high school and Freshman English in college).

*Students must be at least a Sophomore and have a 3.5 GPA (3.0 with approval) to take college concurrent enrollment classes in high school.

*Los estudiantes deben ser al menos un estudiante de segundo año y tener un GPA de 3.5 (3.0 con aprobación) para tomar clases de inscripción simultánea a la universidad en la escuela secundaria.

Will my Snow College credits transfer?

Will my Snow College credits transfer to BYU?

Snow College General Education Certificate of Completion Completing all your college General Education requirements while in high school.

This certificate is transferable to all the State colleges in Utah and allows you to enter college a year ahead with only your major and elective courses left to do.  At $5 a college credit, this certificate can be earned for less than $200.  Tuition and Fees at Snow college for a year are around $4,000 and you can double that when you include room and board.  Working on college classes while in high school is highly advantageous financially.

* Students interested in an APPLIED Associates degree (rather than a regular Associate of Science or Art Degree) don’t do as many general education classes. Check with the college to see what you need.
