Steps to Obtaining a Driver’s License
The DLD is the Drivers License Division
- OBTAIN A LEARNER’S PERMIT
- Pass the 50 question written knowledge test. 80% is passing
- Utah Driver Handbook is available at ZeroFatalities.com/learner-permit
- Hand book is also available at the school in Mrs. Keel’s office
- If an applicant does not pass the written knowledge test within three attempts, a new application should be submitted with a $19.00 fee.
- Must be at 15 years old.
- Pass the vision test
- Documentation you will need at the DLD:
- test completion certificate, birth certificate, social security card, two forms of proof of address
- Cost $19
- Teens under the age of 18 must have a permit for a minimum of 6 months before applying for a drivers license.
- Teens must be at least 16 before applying for a drivers license
- Permit valid for 18 months
- DRIVER EDUCATION CLASS
- In-person with Mr. Teeples during the Summer – Cost $100 or
- Online- mysescutah.gov – Cost $60.00
- ROAD INSTRUCTION & TEST
- After 40 hrs. of road practice are complete, pay the $100 driving fee.
- Instructors: Tracy Keel and Jeremy Teeples
- School months: after school (2:40 PM). Summer months –mornings
- 6 hours with instructor
- Pass road exam- with a different instructor than the driving test, pass with 80%
- ONLINE SAFETY EXAM (see below)
- Pass the online safety test with 100%

- Schedule an appointment with the DLD https://dld.utah.gov/offices.
- The DLD already has your proof of identification. You will need your permit, parent and $39.00.
- Fill out application /eye exam
- Pay $39
