As we enter April and begin the 4th quarter, we also start preparing for end-of-year testing.  The testing window at FES will open after spring break and run through May.  End-of-year assessments are beneficial for stakeholders, and they are used to measure student learning progress/achievement and to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs.

The end of year assessments include:

  • Acadience Reading (grades K-4) – a brief literacy test
  • Early Mathematics Assessment (grades 1-3) – a brief numeracy test
  • RISE Summative Assessment (grades 3-4) – measurement of students’ proficiency on Utah Core Standards and school accountability
    • English Language Arts (ELA) (grades 3-4)
    • Mathematics (grades 3-4)
    • Science (grade 4)

Board Rule 722-404-7 (3)(a) states that a parent may exercise the right to exempt their child from a statewide assessment.  If you choose to opt your child out of end-of-year testing, you must complete the Parental Exclusion form and return it to the school.  The form can be found at:

This is an exciting time of year for teachers, staff, and students.  At Fillmore Elementary, we want testing to be a positive experience for all students.  We look forward to giving students the opportunity to shine and show their growth!  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have regarding testing.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sheriff
